“Not equipped for post-construction or move-out cleaning The glowing reviews may reflect regular weekly cleaning. Despite what the website says, my experience was that Brooklyn Maids did not have the tools or training needed for a true post-construction or move-out clean. I don't take leaving a critical review of a small business lightly. But moving and renovating are stressful enough, and I'd hate for anyone else to lose the time I did. I booked a post-construction/move-out deep clean of an apartment. I was very specific upfront about the condition of the apartment and exactly what needed cleaning, and I was assured their deep clean would cover it. It didn’t. The cleaner arrived with Swiffer wipes, Lysol, and a small vacuum, which simply wasn’t enough for construction dust or the accumulated grime left by a long-term tenant. I understand their cleaners commute by public transit and need to travel light, but I’ve seen other cleaners do this type of work very effectively under the same constraints. Brooklyn Maids advertises HEPA vacuums, but I ultimately lent the cleaner my own Dyson, which helped somewhat. There were also significant gaps in what was considered part of the deep clean. On the first visit, the stovetop was cleaned but not the oven; the refrigerator was cleaned but not the freezer; and the dishwasher wasn’t touched. Those were addressed only after I raised them and the cleaner returned. If you book, I would explicitly list every appliance and area you expect cleaned—including the oven, freezer, dishwasher, microwave, and range hood—rather than assume they’re included. To be fair, both the cleaner and the office were nice and courteous, and the customer service was excellent. The office was very responsive to my feedback, sent the cleaner back, genuinely tried to make things right, and ultimately provided a partial refund. I appreciated how they handled my concerns. I could also tell the cleaner wanted to make sure things were right on the second visit. Unfortunately, responsiveness couldn’t solve the underlying issue: they simply weren’t equipped for the type of cleaning I had hired them to do. Even after the return visit, I ended up finishing and redoing much of the cleaning myself. Based on my experience, they may be a good option for regular household cleaning, which could explain the many positive reviews. But for a post-construction, move-out, or genuinely intensive deep clean, my experience did not match what was advertised.”
